Crafting to Pay Off My Car

Many people who know me know that I LOVE a good challenge. I don’t like being told I can’t do something; it just fuels the fire to succeed. Usually my challenges are money-related and last for a short period of time. For example, I’ll see if I can make $500 in a month selling octopuses (I haven’t done this challenge yet, it’s just an example).

Today, however, I want to try something a little bit more…extreme. It is going to take much longer than a month and will require a lot more money. I want to see if I can craft my way to a paid-in-full car.

By using materials and supplies I already have on-hand, I’m going to craft like crazy and list everything for sale immediately (something I usually struggle with). Instead of letting those finished projects sit and collect dust, I’m going to list them and sell them!

Now, I’m not saying that I won’t have to buy more materials in order to make this work; a crochet hook can break, I may run out of yarn required to finish a project, or more resin may be needed for my jewelry and keychains. What I am trying to do is use MAINLY the materials I already have so that I don’t have to spend money and put myself in the negative.

So how exactly will I be making my payments?

I’m going to continue making my regular monthly payments out of our household budget. That way if I don’t make enough by selling my crafts in a month I won’t be behind. Instead I’m going to take all of the profits I’ve made for that month and add it to the existing car payment.

So no, I’m not only using my crafts to pay off my car. I am simply using my crafts to pay off my car more quickly.

What kind of crafts will I be selling?

Based on the materials I already have, the crafts I will be selling include:

  • crocheted dolls and wearables
  • resin jewelry and acccessories
  • button crafts (mainly earrings)
  • stickers
  • vinyl projects with my Cricut

These are all crafts that I already make and have a history of selling.

Where will I be selling them?

I plan to sell my projects both in-person and on various online platforms.

Will I share details of my loan payoff?

I will definitely be giving monthly updates on how much extra money I will be putting toward the car. I still need to talk to my husband about sharing exact payoff amounts and monthly payment amounts 😉

I have two passions in life other than my family; crafting and building wealth. The two may not seem like they go together, because I don’t know too many crafters making it big and earning millions of dollars. However with the right tools and mindset, anyone can drastically improve their financial health by making simple changes and challenging themself in different ways.

I love talking money and crafts, so please feel free to comment below or email me at honeybumpkinscrafts@gmail.com if you have any questions or just want to chat!
