Crochet, Life Updates

Vlogging, Moving, and Crochet (of course)

Yikes! The past few weeks have been a wild wild ride! I FINALLY graduated from this language training (thank you, thank you), after having to be in an extended 8 week class in order to pass my final test. I have to say, the time just flew by! It was all worth it though, because I can now finally say that I’m an Arabic linguist.

So after all of that, I had to pass a PT test with the Army (which I did yesterday, woohoo!).  Now, we have just a few short weeks before moving to Texas for another 4 months of training. The end is so close, yet so far away at the same time. I’m so ready to just get to Maryland and lay down my roots with my family.

The other day, my husband and I were looking at houses back east, and it kind of put me in a depressive funk.  The homes were beautiful, and within our budget. New construction, 4 bedrooms, and an office with French doors (something I’ve always loved). Not too big, but not too small. Just right for our family of 4 + our pup. I’m so ready to move in, start my own business, and let my creative juices flow, but I know that I have an obligation to fulfill with the Army. I just hope the time goes by quickly and that we are able to save up a bit of money before making it a reality.

Now on to the good stuff; the finished objects.

I didn’t crochet all too much while in post class, just because it was my last chance to take and pass that final test. I did, however, manage to make this guy while watching a Lebanese drama on YouTube:

I had hopes of attaching some gear buttons onto him to cover up that defect in the yarn color, but stupid me didn’t realize that I had to attach the buttons before sewing him up. It’s okay, I think the spot gives him charm. He can be found on my Etsy shop.

The next project I had completed was this mermaid.

I used a smaller hook than usual, and love it much more. The holes are much tighter so you can’t see the stuffing poking through. I didn’t really want to give her that hair color, but I really wanted to try and use up the yarn that I already have, since we’re moving soon and I’d like to get rid of as much yarn as possible, or at least not buy any new yarn (yeah right).

Finally, the last couple things I had made were 3 octopi. Here are two of them:

I made the green one out of yarn I had leftover from the mermaid’s fin, and the glittery yarn I had on hand from making unicorn horns and narwhal tusks. I kept thinking about making an octopus out of it, so I just decided to do it. The third one (not shown) was a red octopus with black tentacles and blue eyes, a request from my husband for his car. I was happy with the way that one turned out as well.

Along with crocheting, I’ve been really getting into YouTube. My kids started a toy unboxing channel, and I started my channel, which for right now has speed cleaning videos, and crochet vlog videos. I’ve decided that I’m going to keep it strictly crochet related, and if I want to make speed cleaning videos or any other kind of video, I’ll upload them onto my old YouTube account that I just had for watching other videos. I don’t have a custom URL yet, but you can see one of my videos here that I have so far.

For the rest of this month, I plan on doing more crocheting, some packing, and working on the YouTube channels. If I really get involved now, maybe some day when I leave the military I can make a small income off of what I love doing. In the end, that’s my goal anyway.
