What I’ve Been Up To & Etsy Update

This weeks blog post is brought to you by the number 3!

It has been quite the week here! I started 3 more projects, finished three more, took pictures of my resin items to add to my Etsy shop  this week, and purchased another 3 patterns! Weee!

I’ll jump right in by showing you what I finished this week!
I finished three little octopi, and added them to the shop. (minus one of the purple ones, my husband is proudly displaying it on his desk at work)
So on Saturday, my husband and I went to a hockey game. We went to San Jose to see the Sharks play the Penguins. Of course, I had to bring some yarn with me, so I whipped up a few sets of octopus tentacles. I still have one set left to turn into a complete octopus, which brings me to my WIPs.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of my current works in progress, but they are a pink octopus, a scrap blanket, and a Purrcat (mermaid / cat hybrid).
The Purrcat is one of the fabulous patterns that I had purchased thanks to one of my relatives who shared the link onto my Facebook timeline.

This GORGEOUS pattern is by Robin Bray with www.hookedbyrobin.com . I purchased it on Etsy and I must say, so far the pattern is written beautifully. All I have so far is the head and the very beginning of the torso, but the instructions are clearly written and there are photos of the progress along the way. So far, it get’s two BIG thumbs up from me!
My other WIP is the as-we-go stripey blanket by Not Your Average Crochet. It is also written wonderfully, and you can find the pattern here. It is a great way to use up some leftover yarn!
The other two patterns I purchased are The Meadowlark Shawl, and the Twisted Kraken hat.

I haven’t tried this pattern yet, but it can be found here . I’m really excited to try this pattern, being as I love my sea creatures and what-not.

The pattern for this gorgeous shawl can be found here.  So I have a confession to make; I’ve never made a shawl before. In my years of crocheting, I’ve never made a shawl. It just never happened. I chose this one to be my first, because I just thought it was so beautiful. I really can’t wait to try this pattern out!
It’s time to get off crochet for a minute, and talk about resin.
I’ve been making resin for a few years. People seem to really like it, but they don’t seem too eager to pay what they’re worth. That being said, I dropped my prices way down at my last craft show, and managed to sell a bunch of them, mostly to kids. I decided that I’m going to list all that I have left over on my shop and a really discounted price. I want to clear out my stock so I can try some new ideas out, because I just really love making resin pieces! I think this time, I’ll stay away from the overly cutesy stuff, and possibly make more magnets and keychains.  The kids really love the necklace, but adults don’t usually search for them on Etsy, so I do better selling them at shows in person. My goal is to have a theme, so my pieces all sort of go along with each other. I’d like people to feel like they can collect them, and add to any pieces they had bought previously.
I’m going to be selling a bunch of them as grab bags, and see how I do at destashing them.
Here is a sample of some of the pieces I have currently:
Again, people see them and tend to really like them, I just have a hard time selling them.
So that’s all I’ve been up to this past week. I have another pretty busy week coming up with a paper due at school, but I plan to keep crocheting and working on my shop. This is, after all, my dream. To build my crafty empire.
What have you been up to this week?
